Visibility with Multiple Reflections
We show that the region lit by a point light source inside a simple n-gon after at most k reeections oo the boundary has combinatorial complexity O(n 2k), for any k 1. A lower bound of ((n=k ? (1)) 2k) is also established which matches the upper bound for any xed k. A simple near-optimal algorithm for computing the illuminated region is presented, which runs in O(n 2k log n) time and O(n 2k) sp...
متن کاملVisibility with Multiple Diiuse Reeections
The combinatorial complexity of the region lit up from a point light source inside a simple n-gon with perfectly reeecting edges, after at most k specular reeections was established as O(n 2k) 2]. A lower bound of ((n=k) 2k) was also established, matching the upper bound for any xed k. In a real situation, surfaces may not be perfect mirrors; indeed most surfaces may be non-shiny or rough, caus...
متن کاملTerrain Visibility with Multiple Viewpoints
We study the problem of visibility in polyhedral terrains in the presence of multiple viewpoints. We consider three fundamental visibility structures: the visibility map, the colored visibility map, and the Voronoi visibility map. We study the complexity of each structure for both 1.5D and 2.5D terrains, and provide efficient algorithms to construct them. Our algorithm for the visibility map in...
متن کاملDiffuse Reflections in Simple Polygons
We prove a conjecture of Aanjaneya, Bishnu, and Pal that the maximum number of diffuse reflections needed for a point light source to illuminate the interior of a simple polygon with n walls is bn/2c − 1. Light reflecting diffusely leaves a surface in all directions, rather than at an identical angle as with specular reflections.
متن کاملOn multiple connectedness of regions visible due to multiple diffuse reflections
It is known that the region V (s) of a simple polygon P , directly visible (illuminable) from an internal point s, is simply connected. Aronov et al. [2] established that the region V1(s) of a simple polygon visible from an internal point s due to at most one diffuse reflection on the boundary of the polygon P , is also simply connected. In this paper we establish that the region V2(s), visible...
